Our U14s beat Kennington Athletic with a convincing 4:1 score line........
Nothing tops how it feels to see your team pull together as one, bravely and boldly persevering to overcome a strong and determined opponent. Coaches Denton & Hendrickse were delighted with the team's performance. We anticipated a tough fixture having never previously scored away at Kennington but the autumn sun wasn't the only shining star today - what a great game! Everyone of the players stepped up and showed what can happen when you give your all for each other and truly play as team. Years of friendship and camaraderie is paying off and we are so proud of the lads.
Bardwell were first to score just 10 minutes in when a perfectly struck corner kick from Keelan Cronin found Charlie George Howlett who deftly headed it home. Further attacking plays involving the Bardwell midfield and forwards then saw Charlie George Howlett set team mate Aidan Wickens up for our 2nd goal. Kennington responded with some good probing runs and their determination was rewarded in the 22nd minute when their winger turned inside and powered off a low to the ground shot which hit the post and ricocheted into the goal.
Bardwell's winger Aiden Sallis was also making some good runs on the other side of the pitch and shortly after it was his turn to find Aidan Wickens in space who calmly composed himself, took aim at the goal some 25 yards away and delivered a "Wickens' Wonder Shot" to much delight and joy from the visiting supporters. 3:1 to Bardwell at half time and the boys want this bad!
Half time pep talks all done and the lads knew that Kennington would come back at us strongly in the 2nd half. We weren't disappointed and they certainly persevered determinedly for the next 35 minutes. Try as they did though we were not for beating today and victory was sealed in the 66th minute when Charlie George Howlett timed his attacking run perfectly and beat the Kennington keeper with a cheeky Charlie chip.
Players of the match today were our back 3 (Jo Nugent, Xavier Carroll & Mateusz Grobelny) and special mention to new goal keeper George Mitchell who made same great saves.
